White Is So Overrated

A white wedding dress is considered to be a must-have in many cultures. Your grandmother wore white on her wedding, your mother too, and you’re expected to extend the tradition and wear a white dress as well. Try not to feel pressured by this custom and be bold – wear a colored wedding dress!

Pale Pink – The color closest to white. A pale pink dress is extremely elegant and it’s a good place to start. If you don’t like the idea of wearing bright colors, pale pink is perfect – the differences between it and white are minimal.

Lilac – Although lilac is considered to be a color typically for bridesmaids, with the right dress you can be the star of the show. Try to pick a lighter shade and don’t experiment too much. Lilac will suit you best if you have a dark hair color – if you’re blonde, you’re at risk of coming off as exhausted.

Fuchsia – This color is for the really brave ladies. There’s no doubt that people will talk about your dress for days. The thing is, if you choose the wrong dress, you might end up looking like every other guest on your wedding.

Yellow/gold – Pale shades of yellow and gold are acceptable if you don’t want to stand out from “the white standard” too much. Buttercup yellow in combination with an unusual short dress can be a real bullseye.

Blue – Especially baby blue, will make you look like Cinderella. If you’re not bold enough to wear an entirely blue dress, a few simple blue details on your white dress will work just fine. Regardless of which alternative you choose, your dress should be designed in a way that makes your fairytale wedding dream come true. That being said, navy blue is perfect for winter weddings.

Green – And by “green” you should be thinking pale mint green, not disco green. This is such an underrated color, not only for weddings, but also for many other occasions. If you don’t feel brave enough to wear it on your wedding day, your bridesmaids’ dresses should be in this shade.

Red – In some countries, red is considered to be a standard color for a wedding dress. Many stores offer a possibility to choose a white dress and order it in red, so you won’t have too much trouble finding the right one. Red is also considered to be the symbol of romance and passion.

Black – And for the end – black! If you want to rebel entirely against the traditional white, black is your shade. Black wedding dresses are a true rarity, so a custom-made dress is sometimes the only solution. On the other hand, if you don’t want a completely black dress, black decorative details can be found almost in any well supplied store.
